Who Is In Charge Of Your Schedule?

Previously, I wrote a blog about delay, delay, delay, and it was about who is in charge of your schedule! Have you been paying attention to your schedule and what happens when it doesn't go as you desire?
This blog is a follow-up with two more examples and addresses the best attitude to have when handling schedule changes, so you benefit.
Let's start with your attitude (and mine). If I approach my day with openness and flexibility, knowing that God is working all things for my good according to His purpose (Romans 8:28), I won't resist the change, and it will be well with my soul. Conversely, if I want situations and events to unfold as planned or as I want them to, I will be a chaotic mess inside. I won't be able to enjoy my day much less others around. I will be unable to be present and connect with others effectively.
As an example, this past week, I had three individuals coming for training on Friday. As a background, this particular training happens once a month. Therefore, if the trainees miss, it puts a wrench in the hospital's scheduling, and no one is happy. Well, only 1 showed up and the others will be rescheduled. While it is a little disconcerting that there were communication breakdowns, I just left all that behind and moved forward with my one trainee, wondering what God was up to.
Boy! Did God have a plan for her and I. The bottom line is, if the other two trainees had shown up, I could not have supported this trainee's learning in the way she NEEDED it! She needed one-on-one coaching and will also return for reinforcement of what she learned. Additionally, we had a fun time! But only because I left what I could not control (others' schedules and miscommunications) and trusted God that He had a plan (He always does!)
Another example is when we were to leave on a road trip. We had a road trip all mapped out, with a perfect schedule in mind, but as often happens, things didn’t go according to plan. Instead of fretting, we found ourselves in a shift of timing that, in hindsight, felt like a divine nudge and we accepted and flowed with the change. What happened next completely confirmed that God orders our schedules if we allow Him to!
We weren’t expecting a message from our pastor, but that’s precisely what happened. The word he shared resonated so deeply with my husband’s heart—almost eerily so—as it addressed something that had been on his mind for over 16 years. It was a message about a past event, one that had been unresolved in his heart for years and hearing it couldn’t have been timelier.
Had we left when we originally planned, we would have missed that moment entirely. Maybe the word would have come later, but maybe not. The fact that we were both in the right place, at the right time, with open hearts, felt like a reminder that divine timing is far better than our own.
The invitation today is to look for what God is doing with your schedule changes and to be open to them. Please share what you realize with me! Send an email with your example to info@awayoflifeministries.com and I would love to celebrate with you! If you are open to me sharing it in a future blog as another follow-up to this blog, let me know!
Blessings to you,
Nancy
